HUCKPAC’S VERTICAL DAY – Lamar Alexander On Life

the man famous for campaigning in plaid shirts, Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander is back to blog again as the sun sets on Vertical Day.  This time Senator Alexander talks about his pro-life stance:

I’m pro-life, and I know that many of you share my deep and abiding respect for life in all of its forms.

I continue to believe what women in crisis need most is our care and support. I support adoption as an alternative to abortion and encourage efforts to make adopting a child easier. And I’ve fought in the Senate for numerous pro-life measures.

I cosponsored the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003 to end that dreadful and unnecessary procedure. And, through that law was challenged in federal courts, I was heartened that the U.S. Supreme Court did the right thing last year by upholding the ban.

I supported the Unborn Victims of Violence Act – also known as Laci and Conner’s Law – which made it a criminal offense to injure or kill a fetus during the commission of a violent crime against a pregnant woman.

And I was proud to cosponsor and vote for the Child Custody Protection Act, a measure which would make it a federal offense to transport a minor across state lines to obtain an abortion if the intent is to circumvent a parental notification or consent law in the state where the minor lives. In many cases, we’re talking about girls who couldn’t even go on a school field trip without a parent’s permission. And I firmly believe that a young lady should have her parent’s involvement in such a life-changing decision.

Despite strong bipartisan support in both chambers and Senate approval by a vote of 65-34, this bill never became law because the Democratic leadership in the Senate refused to allow the two Houses to meet and agree to a final version to send to the President for his signature.

The inexcusable lack of progress on the Child Custody Protection Act demonstrates how badly our nation needs leaders who share our commitment to the culture of life. If you’d like to learn more, I’d encourage you to visit LamarAlexander.com and sign up to join my team.

SUPER TUESDAY – TN & MO

Fox News has called Tennessee for Mike Huckabee!!

and McCain has gone up by a few thousand votes in Missouri.

What a crazy night!

SUPER TUESDAY – Momentum Breaking for Huckabee?

Is Mike working with increased Momentum? He gave the speech of his life and won West Virginia’s GOP Convention on the 2nd ballot. Not only that but the last minute polls in the South are breaking for Huck as Mike is now tied with McCain in Georgia, and leads him in Tennessee and Alabama!

THIS COULD BE A HUGE DAY FOLKS!! Looks like I’ll be right here with ya though as I can’t seem to get a ride down to the Victory Party in Atlanta. That could still change but not likely with hours to go.

Polls close here in Georgia at 7 PM.

Mike Huckabee – "This Race Is tight!"

Mike Huckabee for President - Faith, Family, Freedom

We just finished a campaign event here in Arkansas. The crowd was great and very enthusiastic. Arkansas will lead the way for us tomorrow as we begin to add to our delegate count. Polls in Missouri, Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama also show this race too close to call. We are in the middle of the fight for the Republican nomination and our hopes are running high.

What we need to do tomorrow is turnout every Huckabee supporter we can. Last minute reminder calls and messages to voters are going to be critical. Every vote counts. To help fund this effort in Tennessee, Missouri, Georgia and Alabama we are relying on you to help us close the gap. We are $215,000 away from reaching our midnight goal of $1,000,000 for get out the vote efforts.

Will you make an immediate contribution of $25 or more?

Please help us reach our goal. I will make a final decision on how many reminder calls we will make tomorrow based on the financial resources we have available at midnight. Reaching our goal will give us the resources we need to win in the states we are targeting.

I am counting on you so please consider making a contribution immediately.

With the deepest gratitude,

Mike Huckabee

Tennessee Right to Life Endorses Mike Huckabee!!

From mike Huckabee’s Website:

Tennessee Right to Life announces today the group’s endorsement of Governor Mike Huckabee for the February 5 Presidential primary. The strength of Governor Huckabee’s public record on matters concerning the protection of human life and strong support among the organization’s grassroots members were key to making the decision.

“The beauty of a grassroots organization is that your members set the priorities,” said Brian Harris, president of the state’s oldest and largest pro-life organization. “For pro-life Tennesseans, the election of a sincere, proven pro-life president is paramount,” said Harris. “Our members recognize Mike Huckabee as ‘one of us’ and that enthusiasm is driven by his demonstrated record of leadership and sacrifice toward the shared cause of protecting life,” said Harris.

In particular, Governor Huckabee’s pro-life leadership as Lt. Governor and Governor in Arkansas resulted in the following protective polices:

• Passage of the Arkansas Unborn Child Amendment
• Ban of Partial Birth Abortion
• Parental Notification for minor daughters seeking abortion
• Informed Consent for Women considering abortion
• Unborn Child Pain Awareness provision
• Unborn Victims of Violence Act

Governor Huckabee also supports ethical stem cell research but opposes destructive embryonic stem cell research. He was the second governor in the country to sign into law a ban on Human Cloning.

“What I accomplished as Governor proves that there is a lot more that a pro-life President can do than wait for a Supreme Court vacancy, and I will do everything I can to promote a pro-life agenda and pass pro-life legislation,” said Huckabee. “If I am saddled with a Democrat Congress, I’ll veto any pro-abortion legislation they pass. I will staff all relevant positions with pro-life appointees. I will use the Bully Pulpit to change hearts and minds, to move this country from a culture of death to a culture of life.

Tennessee Right to Life urges concerned pro-life Tennesseans of every political background to actively support the election of a demonstrated pro-life leader who will make pro-life protections a priority. POLLS – Huck leads GA, OK, MO, TN, & Tied With McCain in AL

with Super Tuesday looming right after Florida Mike Huckabee sees a key to success in the many Southern States that have their primaries that day. So how do we stand?

Georgia (Rasmussen):

Mike Huckabee – 34%
John McCain – 19%
Mitt Romney – 16%
Ron Paul – 12%
Rudy Giuliani – 11%

(Note the importance of this trend. The panhandle and the Northern part of Florida are said to be more politically aligned with Georgia. If this kind of margin can be met (or even larger) in those areas on Tuesday night we might have a great shot at a good showing in Florida which would strengthen our position elsewhere in the South)

Alabama (Rasmussen):

Mike Huckabee – 27%
John McCain – 27%
Mitt Romney – 15%
Rudy Giuliani – 8%
Ron Paul – 3%

Oklahoma:

Mike Huckabee – 30%
John McCain – 25%
Mitt Romney – 13%

Missouri (Rasmussen):

Mike Huckabee – 27%
John McCain – 26%
Mitt Romney – 18%
Rudy Giuliani – 7%
Ron Paul – 5%

Tennessee (Taken before Fred Dropped Out)
:

Fred Thompson – 25%
Mike Huckabee – 24%
John McCain – 12%
Mitt Romney – 7%
Rudy Giuliani/Ron Paul – 2%

Also voting on Super Tuesday in the south is Arkansas and West Virginia (convention where Mike will speak). Those are 7 states that Mike really needs to win and that we should focus on. There are a ton of delegates at stake in these. Also following that is Louisiana on Feb. 9th. In what may be a three-man race by that point sweeping the South will be important and would leave Mike in very good shape for Texas on March 4th which might be for all the marbles.
