Mike Huckabee Signs Sessions’ Pledge

News Release: Mike Huckabee Signs Sessions’ Pledge To Secure America’s Borders

Former Arkansas Governor Vows to Make Immigration Reform a Top Priority as President

February 02, 2008

Montgomery, AL – Former Arkansas Governor and Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee today signed a campaign pledge, authored by U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL), demonstrating “his strong commitment to securing America’s borders as president.” (Click here to download the pledge – PDF)

“I appreciate Senator Sessions’ strong leadership on the critical issue of immigration reform and I share his resolve to make it a national priority when I am elected president,” said Huckabee, who has authored his own nine-point plan to secure America’s borders. Huckabee’s “Secure America Plan” is the most comprehensive of any put forth by a presidential candidate.

Campaigning in Alabama today, Huckabee said he joins with the two-term Alabama Senator in calling on the federal government, as well as other presidential candidates, to push for passage of important immigration measures such as border security, workplace verification and “no amnesty.”

The questionnaire, called “A Roadmap for Demonstrating Presidential Credibility on One of America’s Most Important Issues,” deals with five key areas, including securing the borders, ending the magnet at the workplace, enhancing state and local law enforcement, discouraging sanctuaries, and improving the legal immigration process.

Answering a host of questions dealing with the illegal immigration problem, Huckabee said, if elected president, he would secure the border including construction of the 700 mile southern border fence required by the Secure Fence Act, constructing more miles if needed, and keeping the National Guard on the border until it is secured.

Sessions, a member of the Senate Armed Services, Energy and Judiciary Committees, is a strong proponent of enhanced federal enforcement of the immigration laws of the United States. Huckabee says he also shared Sessions’ commitment to “confirming federal judges who follow the law and who do not legislate from the bench and his focus on reducing America’s dependence on foreign oil.”

Huckabee is scheduled to campaign in Georgia on Sunday, February 3, 2008 and in Tennessee and Arkansas on Monday, February 4.

Mike Huckabee Becomes the First Presidential Candidate to Sign No Amnesty Pledge

Mike Huckabee became the first Presidential candidate to sign the “No Amnesty Pledge” yesterday in South Carolina:

News Release: Former Governor and Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee Signs “No Amnesty” Pledge

January 16, 2008

Tigerville, SC – While visiting North Greenville University today, former Arkansas Governor and Presidential candidate, Mike Huckabee became the first presidential candidate to sign a “no amnesty” pledge. He was joined at the event by Roy Beck, President of Americans for Better Immigration.

“I think it’s important to be very clear,” said Huckabee. “There should be no doubt about my Secure America Plan: our plan is not an amnesty or a sanctuary city plan but a proper plan for the rule of law. We will secure our borders and build the fence within 18 months.”

Following is the pledge signed:

“I pledge to oppose amnesty or any other special path to citizenship for the millions of foreign nationals unlawfully present in the United States . As President, I will fully implement enforcement measures that, over time, will lead to the attrition of our illegal immigrant population. I also pledge to make security of our borders a top priority of my administration.”

The Illegals Fear Huckabee!

This article is for the great unwashed who think Mike Huckabee is and will be soft on Immigration. READ ALL ABOUT IT HERE!!

Oh and let’s remind you about Mike’s Immigration plan shall we:

1. Build the Fence

  • Ensure that an interlocking surveillance camera system is installed along the border by July 1, 2010.
  • Ensure that the border fence construction is completed by July 1, 2010.

2. Increase Border Patrol

  • Increase the number of border patrol agents.
  • Fully support all law enforcement personnel tasked with enforcing immigration law.

3. Prevent Amnesty

  • Policies that promote or tolerate amnesty will be rejected.
  • Propose to provide all illegal immigrants a 120-day window to register with the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services and leave the country. Those who register and return to their home country will face no penalty if they later apply to immigrate or visit; those who do not return home will be, when caught, barred from future reentry for a period of 10 years.
  • This is not a “touchback” provision. Those who leave this country and apply to return from their home country would go to the back of the line.

4. Enforce the Law on Employers

  • Employment is the chief draw for most illegal immigrants and denying them jobs is the centerpiece of an attrition strategy.
  • Impose steep fines and penalties on employers that violate the law.
  • Institute a universal, mandatory citizenship verification system as part of the normal hiring process.
  • Prevent the IRS and the Social Security Administration from accepting fraudulent Social Security numbers or numbers that don’t match the employees’ names.*

5. Establish an Economic Border

  • Move toward passage of the FairTax.
  • The FairTax provides an extra layer of security by creating an economic disincentive to immigrate to the U.S. illegally.

6. Empower Local Authorities

  • Promote better cooperation on enforcement by supporting legislative measures such as the CLEAR Act, which aims to systematize the relationship between local law and federal immigration officials.
  • Encourage immigration-law training for police. Local authorities must be provided the tools, training, and funding they need so local police can turn illegal immigrants over to the federal authorities.

7. Ensure Document Security

  • End exemptions for Mexicans and Canadians to the US-VISIT program, which tracks the arrival and departure of foreign visitors. Since these countries account for the vast majority of foreigners coming here (85 percent), such a policy clearly violates Congress’ intent in mandating this check-in/check-out system.
  • Reject Mexico’s “matricula consular” card, which functions as an illegal-immigrant identification card.

8. Discourage Dual Citizenship

  • Inform foreign governments when their former citizens become naturalized U.S. citizens.
  • Impose civil and/or criminal penalties on American citizens who illegitimately use their dual status (e.g., using a foreign passport, voting in elections in both a foreign country and the U.S.).

9. Modernize the Process of Legal Immigration

  • Eliminate the visa lottery system and the admission category for adult brothers and sisters of U.S. citizens.
  • Increase visas for highly-skilled and highly-educated applicants.
  • Expedite processing for those who serve honorably in the U.S. Armed Forces.
  • Improve our immigration process so that those patiently and responsibly seeking to come here legally will not have to wait decades to share in the American dream. Governor Huckabee has always been grateful to live in a country that people are trying to break into, rather than break out of.

*This policy will be drafted to comply with the final federal court decisions on this issue.

JIm Gilchrist Defends His Endorsement of Mike Huckabee

I just found this online and will share it although Gilchrist wrote it at his website on the 14th of December:

Dear MinuteMen and Women,

We have long struggled together to encourage those in power in the Federal government to follow the rule of law and secure our borders and enforce U.S. immigration laws. We have had great success in bringing this issue directly to the American public in the absence of leadership by our political governors in Washington, DC.

Now, as the Presidential Election of 2008 draws near we have a unique opportunity to raise our collective voices at those candidates who wish to lead America for the next four years.

We cannot just stand by and allow any candidate who wants to lead our country to not make a stand in defense of our sovereignty.

That is why for the last several months I have been actively seeking more information about the history, record, and future plans of all the major candidates for President of the United States.

It is important to speak honestly about who has the best possibility of being elected to the White House and, of those possibilities, which one will serve the goals and objectives of Minutemen everywhere.

I understand that by personally immersing myself in the presidential political debate I will upset some of you in the Minuteman movement. That is an expected consequence of being involved in political activism and I am prepared for that consequence.

However, I cannot allow personal preferences, whether it is my own or that of my fellow allies in the battle to defend the borders of our country, to disallow what in all fairness is “political reality”.

Many of you remember when I ran for Congress in 2005 as a third-party candidate. We had a great team and fabulous supporters from all over the country. Many so-called political professionals said we had “no chance to even make an impact” in that Congressional race. But, we garnered the highest percentage for a third-party candidate in a congressional race in 40 years. I am proud of what we all have achieved together.

I have learned much about politics since establishing that political bench mark.

Right now the issue of illegal immigration and border security is foremost in the minds of voters in the early voting states of Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina. In fact, because of the efforts of Minutemen everywhere, it is the major issue in both the Republican and Democratic parties. Like you, I am thrilled that, finally, all of our politicians are forced to address the issue of our nation’s chaotic neglect of U.S. immigration laws in every debate, town hall meeting, and personal appearance he or she makes.

And, like you patriots, I want more than just talk. I want a president who will act. I want a president with a “plan”, and a willingness to accept the challenge of effectively addressing the most unprecedented invasion of the United States in its 231-year history.

There have been very few voices in Washington DC who have echoed our call to secure the borders and enforce our immigration laws. One of those lone voices, and a great leader for America as well, is Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo. Congressman Tancredo is a personal hero of mine who gave me the inspiration to create the Minuteman Project over three years ago.

And Duncan Hunter, Congressman from California, actually wrote the bill to get the fence built on the border between the San Diego, California and Mexico.

Both of these men have been more instrumental in moving the debate of border security and illegal immigration to where it is today than any one else. Tom Tancredo and Duncan Hunter are the quintessential political pioneers in the quest to maintain a respectable and responsible immigration system.

But as we go forward in our movement with a national stage to implement a new policy with new leaders, we have to recognize that the American people have decided there are only three viable candidates for a Republican Party presidential nominee: former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, and former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

The Democrats will place either Hillary Clinton or Barrack Obama into position for the presidential race.

You have a choice: either stand with me on this mission to restore our nation to governance by the people, or scatter in mutual acrimony and resign yourselves to the fact that pro-amnesty Hillary Clinton or pro-sanctuary city Rudy Giuliani will very likely be the next president of the United States.

My recent decision was made to prevent just that from happening.

Americans, I have never made a promise I never intended to keep, and I have never lied about my intentions to devote my all to bringing America back under the rule of law insofar as our immigration laws are concerned.

My endorsement of former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee was not decided over night. It was six weeks in the making.

Governor Huckabee came to me…solicited me for help. Although I personally sent every candidate for president a certified, registered, return receipt query about his or her position on the immigration chaos, only Governor Huckabee bothered to reply.

Not only did Governor Huckabee solicit input from minutemen, he also published on his web site http://www.mikehuckabee.com a written “plan” on how he will address the more salient issues of illegal immigration. When I read his published statements of position on the issue, it seemed as if I had written the “plan” myself. It is tough. It is demanding. And it leads America back to its heritage as “a nation governed by the rule of law”.

Our Founding Fathers envisioned a nation of “representative government”, a nation in which the electorate was actively involved in designing and implementing policy and principle. When Governor Huckabee invited the founder of the Minuteman Project to participate in his campaign, it became undeniably clear that he was virtually asking for the input of 250 million Americans…the estimated number of Americans who support the intent of the minuteman movement.

Now, fasten your seat belts and get ready for one wild ride through the 2008 presidential election cycle

Jim Gilchrist

Saturday Roundup – HUCKABOOM!!

It’s still going strong folks! It amazes even your fellow blogger! Yesterday Newsweek came out with their latest Iowa poll and shows Mike Huckabee with a 2:1 lead on mitt Romney! My gut tells me this is an “outlier poll” but we will have to see how it differs from other polls that are being taken during the same time period. Rasmussen will be coming out with a new poll from The Hawkeye State next week.

Meanwhile there’s shocking news from Michigan this morning where we didn’t have to wait too long to see what the latest data spit out from that state. There is now a statistical three-way tie in Michigan and Huck leads according to the latest Rasmussen poll! Wow!

In other news: Mike Huckabee has laid out his nine point plan for border security and immigration policy. You can read it HERE.

Happy Saturday everyone!
