VIDEO – Mike Huckabee Endorses Marco Rubio In Florida US Senate Race!

The following video is Governor Mike Huckabee’s official endorsement of Speaker Marco Rubio in next year’s Florida US Senate race.  I could not agree more with Governor Huckabee.  Speaker Rubio is a strong, principled Conservative.  We desperately need that kind of leadership in the US Senate.  Speaker Rubio will be a leader the Sunshine State, and the entire nation will be proud of!

Bob Vander Plaats For Iowa’s Next Governor!

My friend Randy Davis has quite the way with words. I echo his sentiments and offer my support to Bob Vander Plaats the next Governor of Iowa, someone The Hawkeye State will be proud of!

I would like to introduce you to Bob Vander Plaats (say Vander-Plots) and why I believe he should become…..

THE NEXT GOVERNOR OF IOWA……

Over the past 22 years we have traveled all over the nation with our ministry. During those two plus decades we
have had the opportunity of being in hundreds of churches and literally meeting thousands of people from all walks of life. I know from experience that it is extremely rare to find an individual with as many positive qualities as Bob Vander Plaats.

Not only is Bob a very good friend of ours and a dedicated Christian, but a man of impeccable character with a stellar reputation. I realize that some of you may know Bob and are well aware of all the great qualities he possesses. However, it may be many of you have never heard of him, perhaps in much the same way scores of Americans had never heard of Governor Mike Huckabee, just over one year ago.

Bob Vander Plaats ( pronounced Vander-Plots) received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa and Masters and Specialist Degrees from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

He is also the author of the popular new book, “Light from Lucas” which is available in bookstores and can be purchased at the Web Site called http://www.lightfromlucas.com You may also obtain this great book by purchasing it on our Web Site at http://www.chalkartist.com …and then clicking on “Special Offers.”

If you do not have this book, I urge you to get a copy right away. For me, I would have to say that other than the Bible itself, it is perhaps the most life changing book I have ever read. Like us, Bob and his wife were blessed to have a “special”child. The third of four children, Lucas was born severely disabled. This story will tug at your heart , and then touch your very soul in a way few books can. Shirley and I gave many of these books away as Christmas gifts this past year.

Bob also has served as a high school teacher, coach, and principal for eleven years in Iowa Public Schools. In 1996, Bob became President and CEO of Opportunities Unlimited in Sioux City, Iowa; a human services organization providing rehabilitation services for young adults with brain injuries and other life altering disabilities.

Bob was a Republican candidate for Iowa’s Governor in 2002 and the Republican nominee for Iowa’s Lt. Governor in 2006. He is now the President of MVP Leadership specializing in strategic vision and executive leadership and working diligently to spread God’s “light” through the life of Lucas.

Bob and his wife Darla are the parents of four sons, including Lucas, and reside in Sioux City, Iowa.

I could go on and on about Bob. I guess the primary point I want to make to those of you who do not yet know Bob, is that he is “the real deal.” If you like Mike Huckabee, you will love Bob Vander Plaats. In fact, Bob served as the Iowa Chairman for Governor Huckabee’s Presidential campaign. Even though we are obviously all different, I see many of the same qualities that drew me to Governor Huckabee in Bob Vander Plaats.

In a nutshell, Bob is HONEST. That may seem to be a rare quality for a person in the political world , but it is true. He is a tremendous communicator, and in my mind, impossible to dislike. For Iowa conservatives, there is no one even remotely close to possessing the qualities of this man.

In fact, if it were possible for Iowa conservatives to “create” a person in a lab somewhere that could articulate their values both socially and fiscally, they would “create Bob Vander Plaats.” The bad news is that human beings do not have that scientific ability, but the good news is, we don’t have to. He already exists.

Believe it or not, the year 2010…. is just next year! In 2010, Iowa will have the opportunity to elect a new Governor. Bob Vander Plaats’ experiences have prepared him not only to be the best GOP candidate for Governor in 2010 but also to be the best leader of either party to move Iowa forward. Bob’s considerable advantages over anyone in the race include….

Executive and Business Experience

As CEO of Opportunities Unlimited in Sioux City, Bob led the financial and clinical turnaround of this not-for profit organization. In four short years, Bob’s leadership brought the corporation from the brink of closure to one referenced as “the model in the country.” The governorship requires an “executive mindset”- a leader not a follower. Bob is not only a successful business owner, but also a proven leader in education. Other potential candidates lack that executive record and that combination of skill sets and experiences.

A Leader in Education

Education spending comprises more than 60 percent of the state budget. While educational professionals exert heavy influence on behalf of Democrats, GOP candidates too often cede the education issue entirely. Nominating a Republican candidate with real classroom and school leadership experience will attract “education voters,” particularly independents, to our side. Elections are won-or lost-among independent voters. In recent cycles, we’ve been losing those voters and elections. Bob Vander Plaats will be the only GOP candidate who can match-and exceed- Chet Culver’s experience in education.

Personal and Professional Human Services Story

Republicans have been biennial losers on this issue. We are painted as uncaring on issues of importance to Iowans who need assistance from the human services system. Bob Vander Plaats speaks to these issues as a parent and a professional. As the author of “Light from Lucas” mentioned above, he details his family’s inspirational story of raising a child with disabilities. As a professional who led a nonprofit that serves Iowans with disabilities and was appointed by Governor Branstad to lead a state committee on those issues, Bob will do more than neutralize the Democrats’ perceived advantage on this important issue; he’ll turn the issue into a plus. Once again, no other candidate- Republican or Democrat- has his experience or perspective.

Statewide Campaign Experience (and resulting organizational advantage)

It takes a great deal of work and discipline to campaign for statewide office in Iowa. Many candidates have underestimated the commitment required for such an endeavor. Bob knows what it takes. He is not overwhelmed by the task, rather he relishes it. As a result of a relentless focus, Bob has built a statewide support system second to none. Period.

Solid Conservative Credentials

Our party nominee must distinguish himself from Governor Culver. Bob is recognized for his solid social and fiscal conservative credentials.

The Head Start Edge

Getting out of the blocks fast makes a difference in campaigns, especially when it scares off others. It’s always easiest to beat an opponent who doesn’t get into the race. ( Just ask Bill Clinton. The Democratic power structure was completely aligned to give the 1992 nomination to New York Governor Mario Cuomo, but he took a pass. The rest is history.) The odds of potential opponents sitting out a race increase proportionately when a strong candidate has emerged. Bob is that strong candidate.

The Buyer’s Remorse Factor

Numerous voters who opted for Jim Nussle in 2006 or Doug Gross in 2002 say they wish they would have supported Bob Vander Plaats and he’d been our nominee. Bob will pick up additional support in this election cycle from activists, voters and the party’s “money people” who now believe we’d have a better shot at victory had they backed him rather than someone else. Thankfully, Bob is not turning his back on our party or our state by giving us another opportunity.

The “Who Wants it Most?” Factor

Call it “attitude.” Call it “the heart of a winner.” Call it “the mind of a champion.” In politics as in sports, all things being fairly equal it’s the person who wants it the most that wins. In campaigns, cash is the one factor capable of surpassing willpower and desire. Unlike 2006, no candidate starts the 2010 political cycle with a huge cash advantage. But one candidate-ours-starts and will finish with a winning attitude, heart and mindset. No one will out work Bob Vander Plaats.

National Support Network

Bob has laid the foundation for a national fundraising and support network through his prominent role as Mike Huckabee’s Iowa Chairman and “inner circle” member, and his work with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. National figures like Mike Huckabee, Chuck Norris and others have already pledged to come to Iowa to campaign for Bob.

Forward this to others and let’s get the word out about this amazing opportunity of electing a man of this caliber for Governor of Iowa !

John Oxendine’s Contract With Georgia

The following is the latest press release from John Oxendine’s Campaign for Governor:

The John Oxendine Contract with Georgia

Today, John Oxendine releases the John Oxendine Contract with Georgia. As the Republican front-runner for Governor, Oxendine continues to run a positive, issues oriented campaign. In the Contract with Georgia, John offers positive solutions for the problems facing Georgians. The initial release offers John’s message to Georgia and the 12 issues covered in the Contract. Subsequent releases, over the next several days, will offer a broader synopsis of the 12 issues.

In 1994, Newt Gingrich introduced the Contract with America. His vision transformed politics on a national scale and made government more accountable to the taxpayers. We can do the same in Georgia. We will transform our state government with a service oriented philosophy that prioritizes families and taxpayers ahead of political self-interest.

Politics as usual have failed Georgians. Whether meted out by Democrats or Republicans, the results have been the same – mediocrity at best, regress at worst. The centerpiece of my campaign for Governor is a pledge. This pledge will break the cycle of promises made but not kept and transform government with one basic ideal – the good of the people before politics. I offer this contract for a better Georgia; a detailed agenda for transformation of state government, which is a written commitment.

The critics will complain, the doubters will hesitate, and the status quo will oppose; but I will move forward in a positive, determined and inclusive way. I will work for Georgia and offer real solutions to our most pressing issues. If you have been seeking an innovative approach, a new direction for government, then join me as we transform Georgia.

On the first day of the 2011 General Assembly, the new Oxendine Administration will have our Legislative Floor Leaders begin to introduce the following major reforms aimed at transforming our state government:

John Oxendine’s Contract with Georgia

First – make state government smaller and more accountable by implementing zero-base budgeting.

Second – create a modern 21st century tax code for Georgians which abolishes the state income tax.

Third – implement a comprehensive statewide transportation system.

Fourth – actively assert that pursuant to the tenth amendment of the U.S. Constitution belongs to the American people and not Washington politicians.

Fifth – break ground on new water reservoirs to ensure an adequate water supply for our future.

Sixth – invest in all schoolchildren by allowing tax dollars to follow the child in the form of an education voucher. An equal access voucher system supports the rights of parents to decide how to best educate their children.

Seventh – create an outcome-based, educational model which eliminates process micromanagement at the state level; maintaining local control but ensuring accountability.

Eighth – aggressively support legislation which protects and preserves human life from conception to death.

Ninth – fight for less government restrictions on where law abiding and permitted citizens can carry a firearm.

Tenth – protect taxpayers by defending the integrity of Georgia’s borders through upholding and enforcing immigration laws.

Eleventh – implement focused domestic and international economic development which targets our efforts on the recruitment of industries for which Georgia is a talent and resource fit.

Twelfth – work with the Governors of other states to strongly encourage Congress to adopt The Fair Tax.

John Oxendine’s Open Letter To The Georgia GOP

The following is Commissioner John Oxendine’s Open Letter to the Georgia GOP:

An Open Letter to The Georgia Republican Party from John Oxendine:

The grassroots work each of you do for the Georgia Republican Party establishes the foundation which allows Georgia families to enjoy the traditional, conservative values we all share and support.

I will be your Grassroots Governor.

If you honor me with our nomination, I will work with the grassroots leaders in our party on a regular basis. It will be my posture to seek the consul of our grassroots activists, listen to our local party leaders, and include grassroots Republicans in the decision making process.

There is a battle for the soul of our Party. I am proud to come from, and will stake my claim with, the true leaders of the Georgia Republican Party – the grassroots.

I know who built our Party, I know who the heart and soul of our Party is, and I know who I intend to empower in our Party. It is the grassroots – it is you.

We must do all we can to support our outstanding State Chair Sue Everhart. Sue is leading by example. From Valdosta to Tallulah Falls, West Point to Sandersville, if the GOP is doing an event, you will see Sue leading the way. Sue has done an outstanding job as state chair and we owe her our deepest appreciation and our united and unanimous support for another term as our State Chairman.

Sue has worked to establish a strong grassroots network across Georgia to bring our conservative values to the people of Georgia. I am very proud to be associated with the Georgia Republican Party and look forward to being of service to contribute to our mission of strengthening Georgia families, protecting free enterprise, and preserving freedom.

As Governor, I will support a large dollar fundraising event for our Party and proudly so. But, I will also offer a motion, and more importantly provide support and resources, to re-establish a President’s Day dinner, among other events, for our grassroots activists and leaders – at a price that is affordable to an activist not a lobbyist.

If you honor me with the privilege to serve you as Governor, I will have one morning a month, every month, where I meet with grassroots Georgia Republican party leaders and activists. It will be exclusive to you – the Georgia GOP. I will not give a speech – I will do the listening and I will learn from you. That is my solemn pledge – to respect and listen to the leadership of my Party – YOU!

The Members of the General Assembly and the taxpayers of Georgia deserve a Governor who will work with both the House and Senate, treat them with respect, and get to work on the hard issues for the taxpayers of Georgia. I will do this.

Here is my personal e-mail address and cell number which will go to me and not staff. I am accessible. I want to listen to you.

My direct e-mail: johnox@earthlink.net My direct cell: (404) 734-5738.

I look forward to earning your trust, confidence, respect and support as I campaign across Georgia. My pledge to each of you is to be a Governor who respects, works with, and unites the General Assembly and honors the grassroots leadership of the Georgia Republican Party.

We can bring this country back to its Judeo-Christian roots and to the traditional values which make America great.

Georgians still have no meaningful tax reform, are still stuck in traffic, still have no new major economic development projects, and still trail other states on school test scores.

My message to Georgia taxpayers: Let’s join together and transform Georgia.

I Am Proud to Endorse John Oxendine For Governor of Georgia!!

Last May, Georgia’s current State Insurance Commissioner, John Oxendine made waves at the Georgia State Republican Convention when he announced he candidacy for Governor while he voiced his extreme displeasure with Congress for failing to follow the leadership of Representative John Linder on the FairTax.  A few weeks later after doing some research I endorsed Commissioner Oxendine on my old blog.  Since I have imported that blog’s posts here you can find it HERE. I would like to reiterate my endorsement for Commissioner Oxendine right here and right now.

John Oxendine has been our State Insurance Commissioner since he was first elected during the Republican Revolution of 1994.  He became the first Republican elected to high state office in many years (if not since Reconstruction).  Ever since he has been one of the most popular Republicans in our state.  In his last two re-election contests he earned the highest amount of votes of any Republican on the ticket (winning many traditionally Democratic precincts).  Margin-wise it reminds me of the margins that Governor Mike Huckabee enjoyed when winning re-election in Arkansas.

If there is a dictionary definition for “Public servant” Commissioner Oxendine’s picture would accompany the term’s entry.  He keeps his office open past traditional business hours to serve the citizens of Georgia at hours that are more convenient to us.  He has also done the unthinkable – cut jobs at the office but increased productivity and efficiency.  On matters of insurance and other consumer matters he is highly praised time and time again for the job he has done.  I can only see great things for Georgia under his leadership.

Commissioner Oxendine is putting his job on the line running for Governor (he can’t continue to be insurance commissioner if he loses his bid for Governor).  One of the major planks in his platform is the FairTax.  He has not waited to be elected to work hard for us on this matter.  He has traveled across the country building support for limited constitutional conventions to get this true economic stimulus adopted.  There are already 16 states on board to follow Georgia’s lead once the language is agreed upon.  There is no other candidate in this race that is so committed to our cause in putting the “Going Out of Business” sign on the door of the IRS.

I can also say without hesitation that John Oxendine is the strongest conservative in this race.  He is unequivocally Pro Life and Pro Family.  He knows that the 2nd Amendment is crucial to defend our 1st amendment rights.  He is committed to stand strong to improve education, energy, health care, and our economy through innovative and effective means.

There are two other major Republican candidates at present for Governor in 2010.  One of them is Lt. Governor Casey Cagle.  He has not gotten along well with the General assembly and electing him may create a legislative log jam that would hamper our ability to grow and operate.  He has also been no friend to the FairTax thus far.  The other candidate is our current Secretary of State Karen Handel.  She announced her candidacy right before the session of the General Assembly began and the delay in its conclusion may force her out because compared to Cagle and Oxendine she has not raised any money.  The only State Republican convention before the election is this May and she can’t spend any money to promote herself by law there.  Therefore she is at a great disadvantage.  She has been a wonderful Secretary of State, taking strong stands against illegal immigration as it pertains to elections  However, she has only served for two years and I wish she would stay at her post for a little while longer.

Under Governor Perdue’s leadership for the past eight years, we have seen “Sonny” days and have moved in the right direction, compared to the days under Democrat Roy Barnes.  I feel that John Oxendine is our best chance to make Georgia a better state and a leader in the nation.  I feel he is the right man, for the right job, at the right time.  Getting to know him, follow him, and listen to him speak he reminds me of the kind of person and candidate I found in Governor Mike Huckabee in the 2008 Presidential race.  He is very real and speaks from his heart.  He’s already taken some unpopular positions in this race but like Mike, he won’t change based on the advice of paid staff or the direction of the political winds.

Therefore it is with great pride that I endorse Commissioner John Oxendine for Governor of Georgia!
