the following is an afternoon update from Mike Huckabee from South Carolina:
It is 12:30 and I am in between events. Earlier this morning we had a terrific event in Myrtle Beach and in minutes we will have another event in Florence. The crowds have been great and enthusiastic.
Two important things I want to share with you:
1) A new Rasmussen Reports daily presidential tracking poll has us 1st in the nation while increasing our lead over Senator McCain from 1 point to 3 points.
2) Chip Saltsman, my national campaign manager tells me we are $152,000 away from our midnight fundraising goal. As I mentioned in my email yesterday, the money we are raising will be applied towards our voter identification and turnout calls. We must have this money in before midnight tonight or it will be too late to make a difference here in South Carolina.
Now, I am flattered that we are leading nationally, because it is a real testament to our positive, forward looking message, but my real focus is on leading here in South Carolina, and some recent polls have us running in second place behind Senator McCain.
So please help us close this fundraising gap before our midnight deadline. Let’s get this done. I am hoping you will join me now with an immediate contribution of $25 or more. We have campaigned for months now to be in this position to win here, lets not stumble now.
Crowds gathering for our events here are growing by the day. I am pushing hard to raise this additional money because the enthusiasm on the ground here is real and we simply must turn out our vote. Just as in Iowa, you can see their is real momentum behind our efforts, and I believe that if we turn out our supporters to vote, we will win on Saturday.
With deep gratitude,
P.S. If you have already contributed this week, thank you! If you cannot afford to make another small contribution, please consider finding 3 friends to contribute. People that if you call or email, will take a moment to make a difference. We have a real need here. Each dollar invested is a dollar spent on our Get out the vote program here in South Carolina.
